Amsterdam is a very busy city with alot to offer an individual if they want to visit for a long weekend. There are many methods of death, such as tram, person, car or bicycle! Had to be extra careful this time as traffic comes from practically all directions with no real system, non that I could find anyway. Plenty of night life such as, red light district, coffee shops (which offer that little bit extra) and plent of takeaways and really nice chip shops. The people were OK, some friendly, some not so friendly. We stayed at a very central hostel called the Christian Shelter Hostel, which was right next to the red light district. No arguements from the lads on that one.
Considering the hostel was of a religious theme, i have never felt so unwelcome. As Simon pointed out, maybe i just have trouble written all over me. I don't know, i just know they like to keep to their own and that was fine by me. Well i got my revenge for their snubbing by putting my phone alarm on at 6.45am. Nice and early. I also took to wearing my tilt poker hat at reception, so they could all see how sinful and beyond help i really am.
We hired some bikes from a really nice woman down by the river and took them out for a couple of hours. Seemed like a good idea at the time, however we did have a few near misses with various other modes of transport and Dave almost took out a guy in a motorised wheelchair. I laughted so much i nearly went flying myself. The bikes were easy to ride apart from one thing, you had to cycle backwards to slow down. Sounds easy enough but when you get going and have a million other cyclists boxing you in, it can get a little hairy. I happy to report, we didnt get mangled too much and got away with only minor sadle sore.
We are currently staying in Berlin at the moment and have been here for 3 days now. Stayed an extra day than planned as we all went on a pub crawl last night and didnt get in till 4am. So another day seemed wise. We have seen so much already and i will post pics asap.
