All along the journey Hung would stop and show me a nice photo spot or take me to someone local for a spot of tea and some unusual tasting pipe. One house i went into was tiny and consisted of only one room for sleeping and living in and a bathroom. It was occupied by a father and son. The father had been in the Vietnam war and once he returned to his home he was unable to get work. The country was in a right mess and so he carved a meager living out of making palm tree trays for the silk trade....he was only 55.....he looked about 20 years older. They were really nice though and while we sat in his only room drinking his tea, he continued making his trays and chatting to his son like we weren't even there..
